The Swords of Lankhmar review

I've said I didn't much care for it in other posts, but I felt that having actually finished it I should write about it. I would say that you can really tell it's from the late 60s given its attitudes toward women. I do however, stand by my initial assessment that it doesn't try to overly valorize the two main heroes, nor does it really do very much black and white goodguys vs badguys. And it also avoids the common trap in more recent books where they have a bunch of antiheroes, Walter White types who you're supposed to root for despite being a gritty bastard. Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser are just two dudes hangin' out, winning treasure, drinkin' beer, and gettin' laid. They take jobs from anyone, they don't care, but they're not cruel or evil, just a bit mercenary. To that extent I find it refreshing. Plus, you can really tell it's from 1969 because in the final scene everyone in town throws a big party.
