"textContent": "I was aware the Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser was a classic in the fantasy genre, and a friend of mine mentioned those books to me so I decided to look up which was the first one and find it at the library. According to this website by publish date, the first one is The Swords of Lankhmar, so I special ordered that from the library.\n\nChronologically however it's the sixth. It's fine, it doesn't assume you know much about the world, so it's not too hard to get in to from the perspective of context. However, it was originally published in 1968 and I don't think it really holds up too well.\n\nIt's cool that Fafhrd and The Mouser are both kinda just bumbling horny dolts who constantly get in to trouble from making bad decisions out of lust and gamble too much and stuff. They're just two guys who love to hang out and do adventures, and they also love getting laid; it's pretty humanizing and it doesn't portray them as chivalrous heroes, and I like that about it. However Fafhrd does seem like kind of a fucked up guy and it describes at one point about half way through the book how he went in to a barbarian rage and got a little horny, noticed one of his opponents had boobs, and knocked her out and tied her to his horse. Really fucked shit, i wasn't in to that; it also has some pretty bad Fantasy Racism (describing the Mingols, chief human enemy of the city of Lankhmar, as having \"slit eyed yellow faces\").\n\nI'm not really digging this story much. But it's short. I will probably finish it, i'm about half way through.\n\nI also picked up A Long Way to a Cold Angry Planet on another friend's recommendation and I'm less than 100 pages in but it's already REALLY good. I'll have more to say on this soon.",
