Door project, simple, not simple

Centuries ago, I added a pass door to my garage. Sometime later I tacked on a cheap porch type screen door, screen only, no storm. Back then, the door was not covered and exposed to all weather. I've since added a sort of awning so I can have it open in rain. The time exposed to weather took a toll though and caused rot in the brick mould. Finally decided to try to replace that. Thought it would be simple, remove screen door, pull screws, remove rotted trim, cut new 2 x 2s, screw in, remount screen door, be done.. Not simple. Screws are badly rusted and bonded as one with the trim and the support wood. Heads stripped. Pry bar and hammer needed to take it out in pieces ... many pieces. Then find the not surprising damage to the support wood. That isn't major though and can be left in place with new on top and sealed since this area is now protected from direct weather.
