Gamers Are Wrong About 1440p vs 1080p Benchmarking?

My immediate reaction to this article is, if I want to see if one CPU is better than another one, I'll look at synthetic CPU benchmarks. For gaming, I'll look at single core benchmarks like Cinebench R23. Now if I'm going to make a decision about if a CPU upgrade will increase my FPS, I want to see 1440p benchmarks alongside the 1080p ones (which are purely synthetic comparisons).

Me personally, I play a lot of non-FPS games and turn up the graphics, while trying to maintain minimum 100 FPS, but more is still better at 1440p (my monitor can do 240). Also, most FPS players turn down the graphics settings for a competitive advantage, so in my mind, all benchmarks are irrelevant for FPS games; i.e. no one is competitvely playing Marvel Rivals, Fortnight, etc. at max graphics settings.
