When I plugged the HP Compaq 6005 Pro Small Form Factor computer into a power outlet, I heard what sounded like a sudden electrical pop either from the outlet or the computer itself. When I pressed the power button on the computer, there was no response.
Before the failure, when the computer was plugged into power but turned off, a small LED inside the case used to light up. Now that LED does not turn on anymore.
This computer uses a PS-42-41-9HA power supply unit (PSU). I disassembled the PSU and found it to be heavily dusty. There was also a slight smell of something burnt. However, after cleaning it, it appeared to be in good condition. I inspected all components inside the PSU, and nothing looks visibly damaged. The capacitors are not swollen or leaking, although they were slightly uncomfortable to touch even when the unit was unplugged.
After cleaning, I reinstalled the PSU into the computer, but the problem remains the same.
