Well, over the years, I’ve hired a total of three friends to work at my company. In theory, working with friends sounds easier and more natural. They know us, we know them, and there’s already a sense of familiarity and trust.
But the truth is the exact opposite.
Friends are great, absolutely. Just not as coworkers. I ended up losing all three of them, and I’ll probably never fully understand why, especially since we worked in different departments. So I made a rule for myself: I don’t hire friends or family.
I’ve also had terrible experiences working with family.
It’s hard to explain, but people mix things up. All of them do.
