"textContent": "For as long as there have been streaming services, there has been a push and pull between consumers and providers, as the former do their best to find ways to share access and the latter looks to impose obstacles to prevent it. One of the most common compromises that has arisen in the field concerns family plans.\n\nWith family plans, a single membership fee lets you add multiple users. For the consumers, this allows all the members of a family to use the same account to access shows, movies, or games, while the streaming service provider can put additional controls in place to ensure everyone on the account qualifies, often in the form of location tracking or caps on the number of simultaneous users.\n\nIt’s no surprise that requests for a family plan made the top five when Windows Central’s Jez Cordan looked at the most common requests in the Xbox Player Voice portal. Unfortunately, the news around the family plan was not great, especially for sports gaming fans.\n\n## EA Gets In the Way\n\nAs it turns out, Microsoft was interested in implementing a family plan, even going so far as to test it in Ireland and Colombia. Unfortunately, it’s the world of sports gaming that proved to be a massive hurdle for the project. Corden was told that EA strongly balked at the premise, ultimately leading to its being scrapped.\n\nEA is a major partner in the program, with EA Play available to Game Pass subscribers as part of the service. So, as long as they oppose it, we likely won’t see a family plan option on Game Pass. What’s more, if you’re a sports fan hoping for a family option, the most likely scenario for it coming to pass would seem to be with EA exiting the plan, meaning the expanded options would still not be available on their collection of sports games.",
