"textContent": "When it was first introduced, The Island was not well-received in WWE 2K25. It was initially looked at as a rip-off of _NBA 2K_ ’s The City mode, which has its own set of problems. However, in _WWE 2K26_ , The Island now features a faction system, a new Scrapyard brawl experience, and supposedly better progression. All of these additions are great, but does that actually make The Island better in WWE 2K26?\n\nWell, if you ask the community, most of them will tell you that it’s almost just as bad as it was in _2K25_. On paper, it seemed like a step toward becoming a proper story-driven online hub. In reality, a huge portion of the community is already calling it one of the most frustrating and disappointing modes in the entire game. Let’s dive in and have a look at the complaints.\n\n## Exploits And Overpowered Badges\n\n> STG playing online on 2K26 is hell. Makes the game not even fun smh.\n> byu/ANBU1950 inWWEGames\n\nWhile The Island has no shortage of fundamental issues, it’s the online play in particular that has players worked up. In fact, it’s a major reason why players hate The Island. This is purely due to the fact that a lot of online matches involve players who cheese the system. Online play is filled with exploits and overpowered badges that make matches feel unfair and broken.\n\nOne of the biggest offenders is the Broken Badge. This increases the amount of stun damage you deal to an opponent when attacking their red limbs. However, if someone decides to start spamming a move like a simple standing punch, it can lead to permanent stun loops. Players report that running combinations of badges like Ole, Broken, Enforcer, and Leech creates an extremely toxic experience where one good running move or ground attack can end the match almost instantly.\n\nHere’s how one player on Reddit describes their experience:\n\n> “The entirety of the online in The Island is broken. There is a GOOD amount of them that makes the game unplayable online/offline on hall of fame tier. The biggest one being the “Broken” badge. Since you can get someone (including the AI) caught in a permanent infinite loop by using the Chase U Stomps on the ground.”\n\nUnfortunately, The Island is full of players like this. The issue is particularly with those who use custom characters that are designed just for these purposes. It’s not fun for anyone involved, and some high tower scores are suspected to come from those using similar exploits.\n\n## Technical Issues And The Grind\n\nOne of the biggest complaints is performance. Players frequently report lag, freezing, crashes, and disconnects while exploring the hub or trying to play matches. Some say the mode becomes almost unplayable after a few minutes, with black screens during dialogue or the game locking up entirely. Even on next-gen consoles and PC, these stability problems are widespread enough that many have given up on the mode altogether.\n\nAnd unsurprisingly, The Island in _WWE 2K26_ is still heavy on the grind. There’s a fair bit of repetitive matches, and overall progression feels extremely time-consuming. Unlocking meaningful rewards, boosting attributes, and completing prestige tracks often require dozens of repetitive matches, fetch quests, and gauntlet-style challenges. This just isn’t the type of gameplay a casual audience is looking for. Even for the most dedicated of fans, it’s hard to get into this grind when the online play is plagued by people using exploits.\n\n## Gameplay And Design Frustrations\n\nImage: 2K Games\n\nBeyond the grind and the monetization issues, there is also a fair bit of criticism around the actual gameplay. With stun cheesing rampant in online matches, fights already feel unfair and repetitive. But even if you take a break from that, there’s not much to do on The Island because of some of the lifeless design. Sure, there are plenty of new areas and cool factions to explore, but once you’re done with the main story beats, it starts to feel repetitive.\n\nDuring matches, there’s also a heavy reliance on perks and inflated stats. This means that matches are less about wrestling skill and who has the better build, even if your opponent isn’t cheesing. On top of all this, many people aren’t interested in The Island in the first place, so you’re left to play with people who have nothing better to do than bully and be toxic. So far, it’s proving to be a bad experience for most people.",
