  "textContent": "We’re already seeing the return of Backyard Baseball in 2026, and now, publisher Holo Indie is giving another classic baseball series a surprise revival. _Bases Loaded_ was a popular retro baseball series known for its simple arcade-style gameplay, and it’s getting revived with an anime twist. The new game is called _holoBase_ , and it’s a pixel-art baseball game heavily inspired by the Jaleco classic _Bases Loaded_.\n\nThis game has been officially announced for PC through Steam. The game will feature three game modes: Hololive League, Versus Mode, and Online Mode. It obviously has Hololive roots. If you’re unfamiliar with Hololive, it’s one of the biggest virtual YouTube (VTuber) agencies in the world. Fittingly, _holoBase_ has a roster of colorful, anime-style virtual idols that will make up your baseball team.\n\n## One Of The Weirder “Remakes”\n\nThe Steam page itself says that _holoBase_ is “the classic full-scale baseball game, Bases Loaded,” so it definitely classifies as a remake. Of course, the anime twist here seems out of the blue, but it doesn’t look like it will be taking away from the gameplay or overall vibe of the game. It stays true to the spirit of classic Bases Loaded with full-scale baseball simulation while adding modern touches like team development, Steam achievements, controller support, and accessibility options.\n\nThe cinematic trailer is also surprisingly fun, giving us a first look at the charming pixel art, classic gameplay, and Hololive-themed presentation. holoBase is currently listed as “Coming Soon” on Steam with no specific release date yet. It supports English and Japanese interfaces and is expected to appeal to both retro baseball fans and the massive Hololive community. If you look at it from that perspective, this weird “collaboration” does make sense.\n\nAnd it honestly looks like a good match. The nostalgic gameplay of an old-school arcade-y baseball game blends perfectly with the fun, personality-driven world of Hololive. It’s a nice reminder that even decades-old franchises can find new life through creative collaborations. I personally wish there was demo out right now to try it, and we might just get once the game is closer to release.",
