This new Apple tool watches for restocks and price drops for you

Apple recently previewed new software coming to its iPhones, Macs, iPads, and more this fall. Included in the announcements of iOS 27 and Apple Intelligence was a potential revolution for online shoppers and people who keep browser tabs open, waiting for products to come back in stock.

Safari Notify Me is an addition to Apple’s web browser that continually looks for changes on a particular site and then sends you a notification when it detects that change.

It’s not just any changes to a webpage that it will blindly alert you to. You can tell Notify Me with natural language exactly which part you care about. So, when you activate Safari Notify Me, it asks what it should look for.

One example would be to write something as simple as, “when the blue shoes are available.”

In-stock and out-of-stock items might be a common task for checking a store. But it could also be for price changes, like “when the XS shirt goes down in price.”

It will be interesting to see how quickly Safari Notify Me works. If a hot product like a new game console or pair of shoes drops, is the feature quick enough to give you the upper hand? The software will be generally available this fall, but there will be a public beta in July if you really want to get your hands on the feature to try it early.

Beyond shopping, Apple mentioned Safari Notify Me could be used to monitor camp registration or any other reason you may keep tabs open in the background.

Safari Notify Me is part of Apple Intelligence. You will need a device that supports Apple’s AI. For phones, Apple suggests an iPhone 16 and later. On the Mac side, that means one with an M4 or M5 chip and later.

Safari can organize your browser tabs

In addition to notifying you of webpage changes, Safari is getting the ability to sort and group tabs automatically. You can already create profiles and dedicated tab groups, but with the update, groups can be sorted and organized without you spending time to do it.

Auto-group sorting isn’t a one-time deal either. Safari will be able to keep adding tabs to relevant groups as you open and close new websites.

The other Safari improvements coming from Apple Intelligence

Another big addition to Safari is the ability to describe an extension. Instead of needing to search through the available extensions that developers have already created, like ad-blockers, coupon clippers, or other things, you’ll be able to describe the extension you want and have Safari instantly create it.

Apple showed off a recipe extension that can pull out and gather a food recipe from a website and save it, just by clicking a button. Really though, the possibilities are vast.

All of these tools that can use natural language to perform tasks on your behalf are essentially Apple giving people a streamlined way to code and build simple apps. If you’re interested in going even further, Apple Shortcuts will provide more ways to automate tasks across your phone.

Here’s one example of how you can use Shortcuts to make your iPhone do helpful things automatically.
