Why do you live as you do?\n\n> Why did you come to Life?\n\nAnd I really do mean to pose this question in this way: Why did you _come_ to Life?\n\nThere are many different perspectives one can have about the meaning and nature of Life, one of which being, \"I did not choose to be here. I was simply born into this place — and now here I am, making the best of it.\"\n\nBut this is not the perspective I hold, dear Seeker.\n\n> I _chose_ to be here. I _chose_ to come to Life.\n\nNow, I did not one day merely wake up and believe this. In truth — and I will say this often at The Mindful Mage™ School for Spiritual Discovery — I make a sincere effort to _believe nothing at all_ , to have _no beliefs_ about anything, and to continually identify and _erase any beliefs_ I may discover within myself. I either _know_ , or I _wonder_. I will write more about this eventually.\n\nSo, I do not believe that I chose to come to Life. I _know_ this to be true. But I did not always know this. For most of my life, really, I did not know this. Perhaps I had a feeling deep within me... but I did not _know_ it with all of my being.\n\nI am sharing this perspective with you because it has helped me greatly on my own journey of spiritual discovery, and since you are here, reading this now, perhaps to gain some insight for walking your own spiritual path, I am sharing what has helped me. You can take it or leave it, but I encourage you to try it on for a least a moment.\n\n## I Came to Life for a Good Reason\n\nThis is the essential perspective. I was not merely born of the chaotic entropy which brought my ancestors to bear generations of children up to my own birth into this human form. Rather, I, as an infinite soul gazing into Life from beyond, _chose my own parents_ to give me this body, this human life, because I saw something good for me here. I saw who my parents were, and I saw the lessons which this life would give me — long before I ever chose to incarnate (\"long before\" does not really apply, because the realms of soul are beyond our current comprehension of time; I use the phrase because it is convenient).\n\nSo then, knowing that I was not merely born out of chance, I must have come here for a good reason. Perhaps I even have a _purpose_ for being here, either something to receive from this world, or something to give to this world. In either case, I had a desire, or felt called, to enter into _relationship with Life_.\n\nTaking on this perspective, that _I chose to come to Life for a good reason_ , inspires a new way of thinking about my own life and how I live it. Try it on for yourself, for a least a little while, and notice how it changes you.\n\n## Discovering My Life Purpose\n\nThere are many ideas about what this could even mean, one's \"life purpose\". Some of those ideas have been more, or less, helpful to me along my journey of spiritual discovery. If you are at all spiritually inclined, or even philosophically inclined, you have likely contemplated your purpose in life.\n\nThis is not a vocation, a career, nor any of these concepts about the work one may do within the context of society. This concept of life purpose is much deeper, and much less specific than any job you might do. It may indeed be connected to the work you do, but not in the conventional way we talk and think about \"work\" in our modern world.\n\n> My life purpose is far simpler than I had ever imagined.\n\nAnd I only realized what it is after many years of sincere spiritual practice and spiritual discovery. My life purpose is not \"to do this specific thing\". Rather, it is _experiential_ in nature, as are all things worth coming to Life for. Souls come to Life for _the experience_ of living: all of the suffering, all of the joy, all of the grief, all of the pleasure. Souls come to experience _all of it_. Because that is how we, as souls, learn and evolve.\n\nSo, what is my life purpose?\n\nSimply, to be in right relationship with all things.\n\nTo learn and embody what the wise ones call \"right relationship\" with all people, places, creatures, plants, and things. This is my life purpose, when distilled into its simplest, purest form.\n\nYou might think that such a simple intention couldn't possibly be your _Life Purpose_. \"No! My life purpose absolutely _must_ be something great, even grand! I have come here to do _great_ and _big_ things in this life!\"\n\nPerhaps. But I encourage you to imagine that your life purpose, your reason for coming to Life, could be far simpler than you had ever _thought_. What you _think_ is not what you _know_ , dear Seeker. It is too easy to become lost in thoughts about what is true.\n\n> It takes great courage and faith to fully embrace that which you _know_ to be true.\n\nYou come to _know_ what is true through sincere spiritual practice, every day. This is how I have arrived where I am now.\n\nI wish the same for you.\n\n_Your teacher,\nDevin_\n\n* * *\n\n _These teachings are founded on many years of direct, personal experience, and are solely the perspective of your teacher.
