As a not-for-profit\norganization that works with libraries of nearly all sizes and types, it is critical for this position to\nhave a high degree of skill across a broad range of technical areas, be highly adaptable, and be\nable to identify and implement low-cost but effective solutions. The position requires the ability\nto work in a close team environment in a small office serving internal and external customers at\nall skill levels.\n\n\nPosition Responsibilities\n● Provide high-level support for customers, primarily those on the Evergreen Integrated\nLibrary System (ILS).\n● Set up, deploy, and manage Linux servers on Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web\nServices, and locally.\n● Assist in the management of the Evergreen, ArchivesSpace, Omeka, and FOLIO virtual\nservers.\n● Work with Kubernetes and Docker.\n● Solve problems using custom code within the Linux environment.\n● Contribute any helpful code solutions to Open Source Communities.\n● Manage system imaging and deployment software.\n● Manage backup solutions for all servers and workstations.\n● Provide support and serve as an information resource related to various desktop and\nperipheral systems (Windows and Mac).\n\n● As-needed support for local area networks, including routers, switches, network storage,\nservers, network printers, and PCs.\n\n\nSupervision Received\nDirect supervision received from the Associate Director, Open Source Initiatives, with additional\nsupervision from the Executive Director.\n\n\nQualifications\n1. Communication & Service Excellence\n● Strong Customer Service Skills: A genuine desire to help others and solve\nproblems.\n● Interpersonal & Communication Skills: The ability to explain technical\nconcepts clearly and professionally to users of all skill levels, both in writing and\nverbally.\n● Composure Under Pressure: The ability to meet inflexible deadlines and handle\ndifficult situations or individuals while remaining calm and professional.\n\n● Collaborative Spirit: A proven ability to work effectively as part of a small, close-\nknit team, as well as independently when needed.\n\n2. Problem Solving & Systems Expertise\n● Linux Administration: Five years of experience managing Linux systems, with\nthe ability to quickly deploy servers for various needs (databases, web\napplications, or file sharing).\n● Technical Troubleshooting: A natural ability to analyze, diagnose, and resolve\na wide range of technical hurdles, from network connectivity to code execution.\n● Infrastructure Knowledge: Familiarity with the “backbone” of IT services,\nincluding DNS records, Active Directory, LDAP, and virtual environments like\nHyper-V.\n\n3. Development & Database Skills\n● Automation & Scripting: Working knowledge of programming languages\n(specifically Perl, Bash, and JavaScript) to create custom solutions and automate\nroutine tasks.\n● Database & Web Management: Technical expertise in SQL-compliant\ndatabases (MySQL/Postgres) and experience with web-based systems like CMS,\nCRM, and e-Commerce platforms.\n● Version Control: Experience using Git and GitHub for collaborative projects.\n\n\n4. Desirable Qualifications\n● Security & Networking: Understanding of firewalls (iptables) and VPN solutions\n(OpenVPN).\n\n● Monitoring & Support Tools: Experience with ticket tracking systems (Request\nTracker, Jira, ZenDesk) and system monitoring tools like Zabbix.\n● Community Engagement: Experience implementing or contributing to Open\nSource Software (OSS) projects.\n● Modern Collaboration: Familiarity with Google Workspace, Slack, and\nBasecamp\n\n\nAbout MOBIUS\nMOBIUS (mobiusconsortium.org) is a not-for-profit, 501 (C)(3) tax-exempt organization that is\ntransforming library services with cost-effective help desk, training, technical resources, courier\nmanagement, and procurement services. The MOBIUS consortium comprises 71 libraries with\nover 120 branches, which includes 63 academic libraries, 5 public libraries, 3 special libraries,\nand the Missouri State Library. MOBIUS is proud to be an open source consortium, providing\nFOLIO to 61 of our academic libraries on a shared tenant. We went live on FOLIO on May 22,\n2024. We are one of the founding members of OpenRS, the open source resource sharing\nplatform. MOBIUS was the first to go live with OpenRS on June 12, 2024, with FOLIO, Sierra,\nand Polaris libraries.\n\n\nThe consortium’s purpose is to share library materials, information, and services using\naccessible, cost-effective methods. In line with our support for open source software, MOBIUS\nalso offers Hyku, an open source institutional repository platform, to our member libraries as\nwell as the open source archiving and digital display platforms ArchivesSpace and Omeka. We\nhelp our libraries promote access to open and affordable resources and enhance student\nsuccess through our OER partnerships, services, and training opportunities.\nThe MOBIUS Central Office is located in Columbia, Missouri, and its customers and members\nspan the states of Missouri, Oklahoma, Iowa, Kansas, North Carolina, Arkansas, Texas, and\nMassachusetts.\n\n\nAbout Evergreen\nIn addition to services for members, MOBIUS offers contract-based hosting and management\nservices to libraries and consortia for Evergreen, a complete open source ILS. We provide\ntechnical, operational, and administrative support through MOBIUS Open Source Solutions\n(MOSS).\n\nEvergreen is a highly-scalable software for libraries that helps library patrons find\nlibrary materials, and helps libraries manage, catalog, and circulate those materials,\nno matter how large or complex the libraries.
