Shakshuka also welcomes creativity, making it a perfect way to use leftover vegetables, cooked meat or ingredients already sitting in your refrigerator.\nIngredients for a Classic Shakshuka\n\n\n\n1 red onion, diced\n\n30 ml olive oil\n\n2 garlic cloves, minced\n\n1/2 red bell pepper, diced\n\n400 g canned chopped tomatoes\n\n20 g tomato paste\n\n4 eggs\n\n60 g feta cheese\n\n15 g fresh cilantro\n\n1 tsp ground cumin\n\n1/2 tsp smoked paprika\n\n1/2 tsp dried oregano\n\nSalt, to taste\n\nChili flakes, to taste\n\nPita bread or rustic bread, for serving\n\n\n\nHow to Prepare the Tomato Base\n\nHeat the olive oil in a large ovenproof skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until soft and lightly golden. Red onion works particularly well thanks to its natural sweetness, but white onion or shallots make excellent alternatives.\nAdd the cumin, smoked paprika and oregano to the pan.
