India Successfully Tests TARA Smart Bomb Kit Capable of Striking Targets 180 km Away

The Indian Air Force and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully completed the first flight trials of the Tactical Advanced Range Augmentation (TARA) system, an indigenous guidance kit designed to transform conventional aerial bombs into long-range precision-guided weapons. The test took place on Friday, May 8, off the coast of Odisha in northeastern India. During the trial, a bomb equipped with the TARA kit was released from a SEPECAT Jaguar strike aircraft. India Develops Domestic Alternative to Foreign Smart Bomb Systems The TARA system was developed by the Research Centre Imarat (RCI) in Hyderabad. Engineers designed the modular kit to provide both range extension and precision guidance capabilities for bombs already in service with the Indian Air Force.
