"textContent": "# **IMPRESSIONS OF AN ANCIENT LANDSCAPE**\n\n#### _'**Philip Huckin and Pete Davis: Impressions of an Ancient Landscape** '_ is a new exhibition that opened on Saturday 13 June at MoMA, Machynlleth.\n\nThe new two person show has a **Phillip Huckin** and photographer **Pete Davis** explore the ancient woodlands of the important Cistercian Abbey and settlement of Strata Florida, Pontrhydfendigaid in Ceredigion.\n\nStrata Florida photographs by Pete Davis on the walls at MOMO Machynlleth © Pete Davis\n\nOver twenty years ago Pete Davis made photographs in the woodlands of Strata Florida as a part of his major exhibition and book In Wildwood. This colour work was seen throughout the UK and travelled to Europe and the USA. After being invited to contribute to a new book of the woodlands to be published next year, the Ceridigion-based photographer has returned to the forest to make new work—this time in black and white—and printed by him using the rare platinum / palladium process. These beautiful hand-made prints offer a new perspective on the woodland and allow the viewer another perspective to appreciate the complexity of the environment.\n\nwww.pete-davis-photography.com / @petedavisphoto\n\nwww.philip-huckin.com\n\n**IMPRESSIONS OF AN ANCIENT LANDSCAPE\n _Pete Davis (photography) & Philip Huckin (paintings)_**\n13 June - 19 September 2026\n**Museum Of Modern Art (MOMA)** , Machynlleth, SY20 8AJ\nwww.moma.cymru\n\n* * *\n\n# **WRITE IN THE EYE** : exhibition\n\n####\nNewport's**Cwtsh Community & Arts Centre** will host a new exhibition of photographs of writers from Wales titled **_WRITE IN THE EYE_** , opening 6pm Friday 3 July 2026.\n\nSome 100 portraits in colour and black and white of Wales-based writers, the work of photographer John Briggs, are brought together in this new exhibition. Selected from thousands of images and taken at all manner of literary events in Wales over the past 25 years - festivals, book launches, award ceremonies, readings at open mics, literary walks, authors at home – the series illustrates just how rich and varied the Welsh literary scene is today.\n\nclockwise from top left: ****Peter Finch**** , Cwmbran Library 2002; ****Gwyneth Lewis**** , 1st National Poet of Wales, author of WMC Inscription, 2005; ****Rachel Tresize**** , Richard Booth's Bookshop, Hay On Wye, 2012; ****Menna Elfyn**** , Ceredigion, 2012. The new book will also carry an essay by the photographer and he'll be producing a podcast series in which he'll explore the book's themes of place, memory, history, identity and belonging.\n\nDetails on the book's format and release date will be available soon.\n\nCopies of **_ANOTHER PLACE_** are still available direct from the photographer's online store using the button below.\n\n## ANOTHER PLACE\n\n__available from Paul Cabuts__\n\nBUY ANOTHER PLACE\n\nwww.paulcabuts.com / @paulcabuts\n\n* * *\n\n# **MOHAMED HASSAN – new photozine series**\n\n## Mo Hassan Photozines\n\n__£12.00 + P &P. Larger than A5 but smaller than A4, and they feel great in the hand.\n**_FISSION_** has all-black and white images, whilst **_DUNGENESS_** and **_BRIGHTON_** have some colour images included.\n\nAll three photozines are available to order direct from Mo's website now.\n\nmohamedhassanphotography.com / @mohamedhassanphoto_\n\n**_Exclusive for Offline Journal Print Subscribers_**\nMo has kindly provided me with a few copies of each of the **DUNGENESS** and **BRIGHTON** books which will be available for Offline Journal Subscribers on either of the **_printed Offline Journal subscription tiers_** , who can claim their respective 10% or 20% discount on the £12.00 book price. There's a very insightful FOREWORD by the photographer that sets the scene for the city and the photographs that follow.\n\nI've had my copy of the book for just over a week now and still working my way through it, so will aim to share my thoughts in a short review in the next Newsletter.\n\n**_NEWPORT ZOOPORT: The Streets of Newport_** is available direct from the photographer for £20 or as a special edition accompanied by a 180mm x 270mm print on A4-sized Hahnemühle Photo Pearle 310gsm paper.
