  "textContent": "## Militia Ranks\n\nAll militia ranks in New Covenant are based on Biblical terms.\n\nAll men aged 13-18 must serve as enlisted members of the militia.\n\nAt 18, enlisted men can apply to the militia as their chosen profession, at which time they become Messengers.\n\nIf no profession in the colony accepts an applicant at age 18, they can apply one more time at 20. If they are still not selected, that man must remain enlisted in the militia for the rest of his life, making very little pay.\n\n#### Officer\n\n**Grand General**\nOne of the Triumvirate, holds ultimate command and judicial authority.\n\n**Bishop**\nChairs the Militia Council for a regiment or sector, shapes broader strategy. Advises the Grand General on all militia matters.\n\n**Overseer**\nCoordinates several companies including training, logistics, quarters, and regional security.\n\n**Captain**\nCommands a company in both garrison and combat.\n\n**Shephard**\nOversees company discipline, welfare, and training.\n\n**Messenger**\nCarries out orders and scouts ahead in patrols, leading Watchmen.\n\n#### Enlisted\n\n**Watchman**\nSenior enlisted at company/platoon level.\n\n**Guardian**\nVeteran enlisted, squad-level leader or trainer.\n\n**Legionary**\nFull-fledged militiaman, newly assigned to garrison or patrol.\n\n**Acolyte**\nGraduate of basic, in advanced specialty training.\n\n**Catechumen**\nBasic-training recruit.\n\n* * *\n\n## Professions\n\nCareers in New Covenant are split into formal Professions. Each profession is a guild chaired by elected senior members within that profession. At 18 (or 20), men apply to work in their professions. They may apply to as many as they wish during the two possible application windows.\n\n**Major Professions include**\n\nMilitia Officer\n\n  * Oversees enlisted militiamen\n\n\n\nClergy\n\n  * Works for the church\n  * Act as judge and jury\n  * Scribes\n  * Family trackers\n    * Oversee betrothal\n    * Prevent inbreeding\n\n\n\nFarmer\n\nRancher\n\nContractor\n\n  * Draws up contracts\n\n\n\nPrinter\n\nShopkeeper\n\nBlacksmith\n\nBanker\n\nApothecary\n\n  * Creates medication\n\n\n\nBuilder\n\nLogger\n\nFisherman\n\nMiller\n\nBeekeeper\n\nCarpenter\n\nCobbler\n\nSeamster\n\nButcher\n\nCartman\n\nMiner\n\nSurveyor\n\nPhysician\n\nJailor\n\nBaker\n\nCandlemaker\n\nMason\n\nMiscellaneous Craftsman\n\n* * *\n\n### Triumvirate\n\nThe Triumvirate are the three most powerful men in the colony.\n\nGrand General\n\n  * Hereditary title through the Moore line.\n  * Oversees the entire militia\n\n\n\nHigh Preacher\n\n  * Chosen by a vote within the clergy\n  * Oversees the entire church\n\n\n\nExecutive Governor\n\n  * Chosen by a general election of all eligible voters: men who have completed militia basic training\n  * Oversees the administration within the colony.\n\n",
