"textContent": "Altered, a trading card game that launched back in 2024 after raising over $7 million on Kickstarter, has announced its shutting down after failing to raise €2 million from a new crowdfunding campaign. Equinox, Altered's publisher, announced the sobering news this afternoon after it cancelled a planned Gamefound campaign for a new expansion to the game. \"This campaign does not only mark the end of a crowdfunding project;\" the announcement read. \"Unfortunately, it also marks the end of the Altered adventure.\"\n\nWhen it launched in 2024, Altered promised far more than a card game. Its offerings also included an ambitious print-on-demand service, a digital marketplace, and an app that automatically scanned cards to be placed in a digital compendium. Also included were unique variant cards that included different stats or factions than their standard cards.\n\nAltered started off strong but struggled to compete in a crowded TCG space. In addition to juggernauts like Magic: The Gathering and Pokemon, TCGs like Disney Lorcana and Star Wars Unlimited have also cultivated fanbases in recent years. Unlike those games, Altered was a unique, bespoke IP, which may have impacted its ability to attract new fans.",
