Playing Pokémon with my kid made me reconsider its youthful design

In celebration of Pokémon’s 30th anniversary, I want to appreciate a design element that I didn't value until now.

In my estimation, Pokémon has been exclusively targeting children for too long. I've wished that Pokémon would grow up with its older players like me. I’m not saying ditch younger audiences, but I believe there’s a world where Pokémon could mature and keep its youthful charm without becoming suggestive or crude.
