'New Worlds' for a Better World

Whether consciously or unconsciously, organizations either activate a world-building or world-receiving mode of operating. World-building organizations generate reciprocal flows of energy through constructive relationships that magnetize participation and fertilize growth. They exert a force on the world that galvanizes change, seeding inspiration along the way. World-receiving organizations take their cues from society as it exists, ever-primed to model their operations and relationships based on the reigning sociopolitical environment.

Both modes require effort, but their effect sizes differ widely. World-building organizations generate a continuous momentum that can be seen and felt, as they evolve from successful interventions to community impacts, and from there, to leading their respective fields. World-receiving organizations seeking safety in façade, on the other hand, constantly grapple with ‘holding onto-tosis.’ They exert energy to hold onto their staff, hold onto their donors, and hold onto their management teams. All this due to their insistence on holding onto conventional approaches that simply do not inspire.

World-builders embrace learning, seeing it as an asset that fuels progress rather than something to fear. They are relationally concerned and relationally motivated, building work environments that are simultaneously galvanizing, just, and equitable. These are the organizations that will win the future. These are the organizations that will change the world.
