"textContent": "\n\n\n\nEveryone's favorite airplane movie is about to get a whole new life because a _Crazy Rich Asians_ TV show is officially in the works over at Max — and star Chris Pang (Colin Khoo) just gave us an inside scoop. The new series, based on Kevin Kwan's series of the same name, was just teased by HBO exec Casey Bloys in an interview with _Variety_ , and I am on the edge of my seat!\n\n* * *\n\n## Here's everything we know about the new _Crazy Rich Asians_ TV show.\n\n### The 'Crazy Rich Asians' TV show is hoping to film in 2027.\n\n\n\n\nIt looks like the Crazy Rich Asians TV show could be coming sooner than any of us expect. During Brit + Co's exclusive interview with Chris Pang (for his new Hulu show _The Season_), he told us that, \"the update is that we are turning [the movie] into a TV series, and we're gonna continue the story and follow the characters that we already know and love.\"\n\nOkay so it's good to know that our favorite character will be back for the sequel, but he also offered one more update: \"We're hoping that that will be in production next year.\"\n\nThat's great news!\n\n### Jon M. Chu wants to further explore the characters.\n\n\n\n\nYes, we're getting a _Crazy Rich Asians_ TV show! “We needed more real estate, that was the reality,” Jon M. Chu (who directed the 2018 movie) told _The Hollywood Reporter_ at the Oscars. “We developed the movie over and over and over again and we’re still working on a version of something that I won’t talk about now, but the TV landscape allowed us to use all the characters.”\n\n“I don’t know if it’s in lieu of a sequel but it felt clear that every character we wanted to explore needed more room and just a movie wasn’t doing it for us,” he continued.\n\nAnd Henry Golding (who played Nick Young in the film) recently revealed that things \"are in motion.\"\n\n\"I think that just getting Adele Lim helming, she's the showrunner,\" the actor told E!News at the premiere of _Another Simple Favor_. \"She worked on the first [movie], she was one of the writers on the first one with Peter Chiarelli. But she came over to London maybe four weeks ago to see me and Gemma [Chan] to talk about our characters. So things are happening, they are in motion.\"\n\n\"We got Nina Jacobson back in the producer role, we think we can also lock down Jon Chu somewhere there, like he's a billion dollar man at the moment,\" Henry continued. \"But you know, we are trying to get back the team as much as possible.\"\n\n### Although writer Adele Lim won't be back.\n\n\n\n\nAdele Lim exited the potential sequel movie after revealing she wasn't getting paid as much as her co-writer Peter Chiarelli (there was reportedly, like, a $700 thousand difference on their starting offers).\n\n“You never want to be the difficult person, especially if you’re a woman,” she later said. “There’s always that fear that you’re never going to work again. But these are the lies that we’re fed: “If you work hard enough, you’ll get there! And if you don’t, it’s because you just didn’t have it. Not talking about that is the problem. Nobody wants to be the face of pay equity, but I’m glad it came out.”\n\n“I love [_Crazy Rich Asians_],” she continued. “I love what it did for Asian Americans. I want a sequel. Whether or not I’m writing it or at the helm of it, I want it to do well.”\n\n### When is the Crazy Rich Asians TV show coming out?\n\n\n\n\nWe don't have a _Crazy Rich Asians_ release date quite yet, but after Casey Bloys told _Variety_ some plans for 2025, he mentioned that the _Harry Potter_ series is coming \"further down the line,\" and Crazy Rich Asians is \"in development.\"\n\n### Is there a Crazy Rich Asians sequel?\n\n\n\n\nYes, there are two sequels to _Crazy Rich Asian_ s: China Rich Girlfriend and _Rich People Problems_. _China Rich Girlfriend_ opens the night before Rachel and Nick's wedding, while _Rich People Problems_ dives into all of Nick's family's, well, rich people problems.\n\nThese are genuinely some of the best books I've ever read — Kevin Kwan's writing will make you forget the real world, and his ability to distinguish every single character's voice and personalities should be taught in creative writing! You'll definitely want to add these to your summer reading.\n\n**Stay tuned for more updates on the _Crazy Rich Asians_ TV show, and check out our TikTok for more pop culture news.**\n\n_Brit + Co may at times use affiliate links to promote products sold by others, but always offers genuine editorial recommendations._\n\n_This post has been updated._",
