"textContent": "\n\n\n\nIn the world of digital cameras, there’s always going to be a new firmware update around the corner. And, in most instances, there’s never really a debate about whether it’s a good strategy or not to keep your cameras updated with the latest software.\n\nThat being said, there is some good advice: consider waiting a little bit before downloading and installing firmware updates, as the updates themselves can sometimes cause issues. However, there’s no right or wrong answer for when to add an update. The real trick is to just make sure you do at some point.\n\nAnd that is the case with news of two of Sony’s popular Alpha-series mirrorless cameras receiving new firmware updates. These aren’t major updates by any means, but they fix some minor issues and overall improve operational stability.\n\nHere’s what you need to know.\n\n* * *\n\n\n\n\n### Sony Firmware Updates\n\n\n\n\nSo, the latest firmware updates from Sony are for the a7S III (version 5.01) and the a7 IV (version 6.02). Again, these aren’t major updates in terms of new features or anything, but they are notable because they fix some minor issues for each camera that could be detrimental (or at least annoying) when you're out in the field working on a project.\n\nHere’s the full breakdown of the firmware updates for each camera, along with links to download and install for each.\n\nSony a7S III Firmware Version 5.01\n\n * Fixes an issue where part of the green frame indicating the AF (autofocus) status was not displayed when using the Expand Spot feature\n * Improves the operational stability of the camera\n * Download here\n\n\n\nSony a7 IV Firmware Version 6.02\n\n * Fixes an issue where Focus Bracket shooting could not be performed in some cases\n * Improves the operational stability of the camera\n * Download here\n\n\n\n### Notes for Updating\n\n\n\n\nAs is the case with all new Sony mirrorless camera updates, the company shares the following notes for updating:\n\n * Updates should be installed in chronological order.\n * Some settings will not be carried over to the new version, even if they were previously saved using the Save/Load settings. When updating from earlier versions, we recommend writing down the following settings in advance:\n * Network Streaming, Cloud Connection, and Access Authen. settings\n * Switch Focus Area and Send to Smartphone settings registered to Custom Key\n * Version setting registered in My Menu\n * This update is only available for memory cards. Windows and macOS versions are not provided.\n * You can download the software update using the Creators' App available in the App Store and Google Play.\n\n",
