2TB of Storage in Your Pocket: Meet Lexar's New SSD Thumb Drive
Well, this is cool. Lexar has introduced the world to its new D70E, an external, portable SSD that functions as a tiny thumb drive and can serve many purposes for filmmakers and video pros on the go.
Small enough to fit into your pocket, or certainly the palm of your hand, this extremely compact portable SSD offers a range of connectivity options with its USB-C and USB-A ports and some pretty fast read and write speeds too.
It’s also set to be quite affordable and could be a nice option for filmmakers or video pros looking either for an extra SSD on set or a backup option to easily keep in their bags, especially helpful when they travel.
Lexar Dual Drive Portable SSD D70E
Officially introduced by Lexar as a portable SSD, you wouldn’t be wrong to call this tiny boy a thumb drive, as that’s clearly what it is. However, this extremely compact SSD packs a punch when it comes to transfer speeds, hitting up to 2,000 MB/s read and 1,800 MB/s write speeds via its USB-C port.
Its USB-A side can reach read speeds up to 1,000 MB/s and write speeds up to 900 MB/s, making it quite versatile for many use cases. It’s also, as we mentioned, very tiny and easy to fit into a pocket, a hand, or a camera bag when on the run.
Otherwise, it’s nothing too new, but a nice option to consider thanks to its durability and broad compatibility, as it works with your Windows PCs, Mac computers, and various iOS and Android devices.
Price and Availability
The main selling point for this new Lexar D70E, besides its tiny size, will be its price point: it’s set to be available for only $120 for its smallest 512GB size and up to $300 for its largest 2TB version.
So, again, whether you need it for backing up footage or even for handling files and drafts directly to team members, producers, or clients, this might be a nice, tiny option to consider. For more info, you can head over to the company’s website here.
