Canon Posts Enigmatic Teaser for a New Camera of Its Own Set to Debut Next Week
Yesterday, we posted about a mysterious teaser video from Sony promising a new R camera is on the way, set to be officially revealed next week on May 13th. Well, not to be outdone, Canon has also released a mysterious teaser video promising a new camera of its own… set to be revealed next week on May 13th.
To be honest, we have less to go off of with this Canon teaser than we did with the Sony one. But we’re happy to do our own digging and share our guesses about what this new Canon camera might be. We’re also just excited to get not one, but two, new cameras from some of the top brands in the world next week.
So, buckle up, folks.
Canon Camera Teaser
Posted on Canon’s official YouTube page, the company’s teaser video is simply titled “Coming Soon” and features the text “every moment has a story waiting to be told.” We also get the teaser tag, “one camera. Endless possibilities,” along with the announcement date.
Set to be announced next week on May 13th at 9 am EDT, this Canon camera is scheduled to be revealed 30 minutes before Sony unveils its new R camera at 9:30 EDT on the same day. Is this a coincidence of announcements, or are we getting some gamesmanship between these two legacy brands?
It’s hard to say, but we’re excited nonetheless. We’re also, as you surely are, quite curious as to what these new cameras could be.
Deciphering the Canon Teaser
Again, unlike the Sony camera announcement, which many online believe is certainly the Sony a7R VI (though you never know with these things, even with rumors and leaks), we don’t have as much info on what this new Canon camera might be.
The video in question doesn’t give much info either, though some online have pointed out that the framing appears to form a “V” shape as the video ends. We can also deduce that the camera is likely a video-focused model simply by how it is held in the video.
And, honestly, that’s about it in terms of rumors. There aren’t any major leaks to speak of, so like you, we’re in the dark and excited to see what is officially revealed next week. So stay tuned.
