Eddie AI Introduces Night Shift to Let AI Help Process Footage Overnight After a Shoot Day
The AI assistant video editor Eddie AI is getting some new updates that aim to make video editors' lives easier and more streamlined. As we’ve seen when we’ve covered Eddie AI (or other AI video assistant tools) in the past, these updates are still very much in the life-improvement realm rather than the full-replacement arena.
The goal, as stated by Eddie and others, is to speed up workflows, reduce arduous tasks, and give editors more time and space for creative decisions.
Let’s take a look at the latest updates for Eddie AI and see how these improvements can help with the above. You know, if that’s something you’re interested in.
Eddie AI V3 Night Shift
So, the big news here with this new Eddie AI V3 update is the Night Shift mode, which lets users task Eddie with processing footage after a shoot day, with the goal of having it sorted, synced, logged, and ready for editors to get creative with the next morning.
There are some other new updates with Eddie that are a part of this new processes, namely the ability to now text Eddie a link to your footage in Frame.io, Google Drive, or Dropbox, and Eddie will then automatically begin to ingest the footage, process it, and text back the edit and logging results by 8am (PST) the following morning.
As part of this Night Shift process, Eddie will be able to do the following:
- sort interviews from B-roll
- sync multicam interviews
- log both interviews and B-roll
- create a rough cut overnight
By morning, editors will receive an organized project ready to open in Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or Final Cut Pro.
Other Eddie AI V3 Updates
Along with Night Shift, which the company notes will be particularly helpful for producers and editors receiving footage from videographers, as well as for teams using more complex C2C workflows (including Sony’s camera-to-Google Drive option), there are other helpful updates.
The other major news here is that editors working on corporate or branded docs or docu-style projects can now import interviews and B-roll into the same project.
From there, Eddie will be able to build a rough narrative cut up to 40 minutes long, using story elements such as themes, conflict, and resolution. Once this story spine is created, Eddie can analyze the B-roll, select the strongest subclips, and automatically place B-roll sequences over the edit.
The result, of course, is ideally an assembly edit of interview soundbites and B-roll sequences that can be exported to the user’s NLE, saving significant time. Eddie can also now export logged and organized A-roll and B-roll footage, handling a major part of the assistant editor workflow.
Here’s the full list of additional updates coming to Eddie AI with this V3 update:
- Email sign-in : Users can now sign up with email and password, in addition to social login.
- Docs/Stringout mode : “Chat & Edit” has been renamed Docs/Stringout to better reflect its use for building stories from soundbites across unscripted interviews.
- Faster imports : Large project imports are now faster and more reliable from Premiere, Resolve, and Final Cut Pro, as well as from local drives, network drives, and cloud storage.
- Mixed media support : Users can now combine standard clips and multicam clips from NLEs within the same project.
- Flexible pricing: Eddie now supports both pay-as-you-go credits and subscriptions, with the option to pause a subscription as needed.

As always, these AI assistant editor tools aren’t for everyone. If you’re against all forms of AI, then this might not be your bag. But if you’re interested in AI workflow tools, but not generative AI video models, then this might be a sweet spot for making your life easier. It’s really up to you.
