"textContent": "\n\n\n\nAs we covered when it was _announced last week_, Netflix didn’t wait long after its _failed bid for Warner Bros._ to make another move. The streaming giant acquired InterPositive, an AI filmmaking startup backed by Ben Affleck.\n\nThe terms of the deal have now been shared, and it looks like Netflix is paying up to $600 million for the AI company co-founded by Affleck. We’ve also learned new details about how the company promises to help filmmakers work with AI and edit footage in post-production.\n\n* * *\n\n### What Does InterPositive Do?\n\n\n\n\nWhen the deal was first announced, all we really got was vague terms about the Affleck-backed AI company doing something with “AI filmmaking.” And while we still have a few questions, more reports have come out, offering further insights into what InterPositive promises to do.\n\nAccording to _TechCrunch_, InterPositive is developing AI tools that can help filmmakers work more efficiently in post-production, specifically by ingesting raw production dailies and building a custom AI model that can be trained to speed up VFX.\n\nWe haven’t seen it in action just yet, but for a deal worth up to $600 million, you’d think it would be pretty sophisticated and ready to go.\n\n### Not a Generative AI Play\n\n\n\n\nAnother point made in many reports about this deal is that InterPositive is not a generative AI video company or a model. The model it provides appears to be meant to help filmmakers with VFX, removing wires, reframing, and relighting shots.\n\nStill, as with any news about AI, the same concerns about ethics and sustainability abound. Without more information from Netflix, aside from a promo-ish video featuring Affleck, we don’t have much to go on so far.\n\nWe’ll keep you posted as this story develops.",
