While not as major as the last firmware update released by DJI for its popular Osmo Action 6, which saw the action camera get 8K video recording capabilities, this newest firmware update is adding some more new features as well as fixing some minor bugs.

A new 4K Live Photo Mode is being added to the DJI Osmo Action 6 that will allow for direct in-camera capture as well as video frame extraction in the DJI Mimo app. The update will also fix some minor bugs and issues, so it’s worth checking out if you’re already (or interested in) rocking the Osmo Action 6.

DJI Osmo Action 6 4K Live Photo Update

So, this isn’t a major firmware update, and certainly not as notable as the last one, which saw the DJI Osmo Action 6 receive a host of new features, most notably including support for recording 8K video, new uploading features, and some slick film-style tone presets.

This update pretty much just adds one thing, which is support for Live Photo in the Photo Mode that allows shooters to capture 4K Live Photos directly in camera, as well as the ability to extract video frames in the DJI Mimo app.

How to Download and Install

If this sounds like something you’re interested in, the update is easy to download and install through the Mimo app—you can find more info on how to do this on DJI’s website here.

If, for whatever reason, you’re having some issues updating your Osmo Action 6, DJI recommends going through the following steps:

  1. Restart the camera and DJI Mimo.
  2. Enable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on the mobile device.
  3. Connect the camera to DJI Mimo and try the update again.
  4. Contact DJI Support if the update fails again.
