Uh-Oh: Those 720p Seedance 2.0 Videos Can Now Be Upscaled to 4K With This Upscaler

We know, we’re all doomed. Or maybe we’re not, and AI slop will always be AI slop. You can be the judge for yourself, and we’ll all find out what the future holds together, if we’re ever allowed to get there, that is.

What we do know today is that Seedance 2.0 is currently the top option for generative AI video. It’s hard to access, clearly appearing to have been trained on illegally obtained intellectual property, and it’s likely going to be sued into oblivion.

But all of those are tomorrow’s problems, and that honestly seems to be the approach being taken by ByteDance, the Chinese company that created Seedance, as it doesn’t look like the gen-AI video model is slowing down anytime soon.

To make matters worse (or better if you’re interested in creating AI videos that look better, but still sloppy and odd), there’s a new AI upscaler option out there that can take a Seedance 2.0 720p video and make it 4K.

Upscale Seedance 2.0 Videos

Shared on X by user Javi Lopez, we have a lengthy thread that outlines what the Magnific Upscaler for Video is capable of in terms of upscaling Seeedance 2.0 720 res videos to 4K. The thread is filled with the usual “game over for filmmakers” type rhetoric, which is all over the internet (or at least X) these days, but it’s hard to argue that the results aren’t getting better.

The Magnific Upscaler for video is available for Freepik AI partners and Magnific Web beta testers here at the moment, but the technology promises the ability to upscale any resolution up to 1k, 2k, or 4k, including Seedance 2.0, Kling 3, Runway, and others.

The thread goes on to admit that some of the upscaling technology isn’t perfect, and there can be some sloppy changes to colors, faces, and HDR. But, again, it all looks sloppy at times and likely very hard to work with in any meaningful way.

If you’re curious, though, and want to check things out either for a doomscroll or just to see what it’s about, you can watch some more examples in the thread below.
