When covering the ever-coming AI revolution in the film and video industry, we’ve tried our best to point out the different types of AI technologies that are changing the landscape.

On one hand, we have the generative AI models, which are the scarier, more replacement-likely technologies. On the other hand, we have AI assistants and workflow aids which (at least in theory) promise to improve editing speed and efficiency for filmmakers, not replace them.

Regardless of how you feel about the validity of either, it’s impossible to argue that AI technologies in both areas are advancing at a rapid pace. If you’re at all interested in trying any of them out, in particular the AI workflow tools, then we have another AI assistant tool that aims to speed up your edits to check out.

Let’s look at Nice Touch, an AI workflow assistant for professional video editing teams.

Nice Touch AI Workflow Assistant

Designed as a desktop app that works alongside editors inside their favorite video editing platforms like DaVinci Resolve and Adobe Premiere, Nice Touch is a new AI editing assistant option that can analyze footage and project context, then help teams move faster from raw materials to a solid first pass edit.

The goal of Nice Touch (and other AI video editing assistant options, which we’ve covered in the past) is to help eliminate the time editors spend on non-creative work like hunting through footage, building selects, assembling early timelines, and keeping track of decisions as feedback arrives from producers and other interested parties.

As an AI solution, Nice Touch works by analyzing elements like footage, transcripts, and project context to surface structure and key moments so that editors don’t have to spend extra time scrubbing, searching, or starting each edit from scratch.

Nice Touch Demo

If you’re curious about Nice Touch, you can see a demo of it in action above. The company shares that it focuses on these three areas in its goal to help editors:

  • Identifying moments, themes, and sections within long recordings
  • Surfacing useful quotes and key beats
  • Organizing material into a usable structure for the edit

What’s interesting about Nice Touch is where it stops in its services, as after it helps to assemble selects, stringouts, and rough cuts, it’s pretty much done. The creative decisions are then left to the editor from there.

Availability and Ethics

Nice Touch is now available on macOS and Windows. The company shares that it does not, and promises to never store any of its users' IP or train its models on their content.
