UFC Freedom 250 Preview & Picks: Topuria vs Gaethje, Pereira vs Gane on June 14, 2026

Let's get one thing out of the way before we talk about any of this: a UFC pay-per-view is being held at The White House on Sunday. Not near the White House. Not in Washington, D.C. At the actual South Lawn of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. The event is called UFC Freedom 250. Freedom. That is the branding. Two men, one from Georgia-by-way-of-Spain, one from a small mining town in Colorado, will fight for the UFC lightweight title at the home of the American presidency, presented by Crypto.com and RAM (these are the real sponsors of this event).
We're not here to ruin your Sunday. This fight card is genuinely stacked — Ilia Topuria defending his lightweight title against Justin Gaethje, Alex Pereira in a heavyweight interim title fight against Ciryl Gane, Sean O'Malley, Derrick Lewis, Mauricio Ruffy vs. Michael Chandler. If you're going to throw a PPV at the White House during a war, at least make it worth the price of admission, and this one might be. But we're going to hold two thoughts at once: this card rips, and the staging of it is one of the stranger symbols of the moment we're living in.
Let's hold up on getting triggered for a minute while we analyze all seven fights, our picks, and why.
Event Details
UFC Freedom 250 — Sunday, June 14, 2026 Venue: The White House, South Lawn, Washington, D.C. (Just had to type it again) Broadcast: Paramount+ PPV, Main Card 8:00 PM EDT
Main Event: Ilia Topuria (c) vs. Justin Gaethje (ic) for the UFC Lightweight Championship
Ilia "El Matador" Topuria is 17-0. He has not lost a professional MMA fight. He vacated the featherweight belt, moved to lightweight, and immediately knocked out Charles Oliveira in the first round at UFC 317 to claim the title. He didn't need a feeling-out period. He just finished the most accomplished submission artist in UFC history in under three minutes and called it a Tuesday.
Justin Gaethje is the kind of fighter who makes every round feel like it could end everything. He is violent, he is durable, and he walks through damage that stops other people. He held interim lightweight gold. He has been the most dangerous version of himself in the biggest moments of his career. Against Topuria, he is a massive underdog, and a legitimate threat, because Gaethje is always a legitimate threat.
The -520 reflects reality: Topuria's precision is surgical, his BJJ is elite if the fight hits the mat, and his finishing instinct is among the best in the sport. He has seven KO wins and ten first-round finishes. He is not coming to the White House to grind a decision on the President's lawn. The KO/TKO lean is very much in play.
EDGELY PICK: Topuria ML (-520) LEAN ONLY: Topuria via KO/TKO (-225) Method of victory leans are directional, not confident picks.
Confidence: HIGH. Our most confident play of the night. The unbeaten record stays intact.
Co-Main Event: Alex Pereira vs. Ciryl Gane — UFC Heavyweight Interim Championship
Here is where we part ways with the majority. The betting market is on Pereira. The public is on Pereira. Alex Pereira is an extraordinary fighter who has bounced between weight classes collecting titles like they're parking tickets, and his power is genuinely terrifying. He is the kind of man who can end a fight at any moment against anyone.
But Ciryl "Bon Gamin" Gane is one of the most technically gifted heavyweights to ever compete in this sport. His footwork is elite. His output is high. He held the interim heavyweight title. He has the movement and the conditioning to make Pereira genuinely uncomfortable in ways that most heavyweights cannot manage. And right now, he is available at near-even money.
We're taking the upset. This is not a slam-dunk play. If Pereira lands the shot, the night ends early and badly for Gane. But at those odds, value points at Gane — and a Gane decision at +280 for method has real appeal. Gane can go five rounds. Pereira has been hittable. Most people are on Pereira. We're fading them.
EDGELY PICK: Gane ML (-115) UPSET ALERT LEAN ONLY: Gane via Decision (+280) Method of victory leans are directional, not confident picks.
Confidence: LOW-MEDIUM. The upset pick of the card. Bet accordingly.
Bantamweight Bout: Sean O'Malley vs. Aiemann Zahabi
Sean "Sugar" O'Malley is one of the cleanest strikers in MMA, a former bantamweight champion, and -425 on this fight. That is not a fun line to bet — it's a line you bet because you want to be right and you're comfortable with the juice. Zahabi is ranked and capable, but this is a stylistic mismatch at a high level. O'Malley's length, creativity, and timing give him options Zahabi has likely not seen consistently deployed against him.
The question is whether Sugar goes looking for the finish or settles into a dominant 15-minute showcase. Either way, we are firmly in his corner. This fight could end early or go the distance: O'Malley is capable of both.
EDGELY PICK: O'Malley ML (-425) LEAN ONLY: O'Malley via Decision (+100) Method of victory leans are directional, not confident picks.
Confidence: HIGH.
Heavyweight Bout: Josh Hokit vs. Derrick "The Black Beast" Lewis [FIGHT OF THE NIGHT PICK]
Accept one reality going in: somebody is probably going to sleep, and it might happen very fast.
Derrick Lewis holds the all-time UFC record for knockout victories. He is 38 years old. His chin is made of something not catalogued in the periodic table. Every time he is supposed to lose on paper, there is a real probability he ends someone's entire evening in under a minute. He has done it before. He will do it again, to someone, at some point. The question for June 14 is whether Hokit is that someone.
Hokit is ranked 5th and is a -410 favorite, and the line reflects quality. He is bigger, younger, and built for this moment. We're picking Hokit. But this is our Fight of the Night pick precisely because the chaos factor is maxed out. One of these guys is getting dropped — we just don't know who throws the decisive shot first. The Decision lean at +700 is a very spicy play for a Hokit-controls-the-whole-fight scenario, but honestly? Our gut says this ends violently and early. FOTN seems inevitable.
EDGELY PICK: Hokit ML (-410) _LEAN ONLY: Hokit via Decision (+700) Method of victory leans are directional, not confident picks. _
Confidence: MEDIUM. Lewis is never truly safe to fade. This is a coin flip with a sledgehammer attached.
Lightweight Bout: Mauricio "Shoemaker" Ruffy vs. Michael Chandler
Michael Chandler's heart is unquestionable and his highlight reel is legitimately elite he has finished fights in ways that belong in the sport's all-time moments. But ranked 13th against a surging Ruffy coming in at -650, the numbers are telling a story that is hard to argue with.
Mauricio Ruffy is quietly building something dangerous at 155. He finishes fights. He hits hard. He is young and improving. This is our most confident method play on the card as the KO/TKO lean is live, and we mean it. Ruffy does not just win. He tends to leave no doubt about how the night ends.
EDGELY PICK: Ruffy ML (-650) _LEAN ONLY: Ruffy via KO/TKO (-220) Method of victory leans are directional, not confident picks. _
Confidence: HIGH. One of our three most confident plays alongside Topuria and O'Malley.
Middleweight Bout: Bo Nickal vs. Kyle Daukaus
Let's have an honest conversation about Bo Nickal.
He is a three-time NCAA Division I national wrestling champion. He is a legitimate athlete. His development as a complete mixed martial artist has been real. He is also a -310 favorite here, which is a number that asks a lot for a fight that has real questions in it.
Kyle Daukaus is a real fighter who can win this. In no honest reading of the matchup should Nickal be -310 over Daukaus. The price feels buoyed by hype as much as evidence. If Daukaus catches him early and closes the show, we will not be shocked and we say that as people who are picking Nickal to win because he probably will. His wrestling is elite. He should be able to control this fight. But "should" is doing heavy lifting, and this is our least confident ML pick on the entire card. The line is inflated. Daukaus is a live underdog. Anyone treating this as a lock is ignoring the tape.
EDGELY PICK: Nickal ML (-310) _LEAN ONLY: Nickal via Decision (+220) Method of victory leans are directional, not confident picks. _
Confidence: LOW-MEDIUM. Daukaus is a live dog. Bet the ML with eyes open.
Featherweight Bout: Diego Lopes vs. Steve Garcia
Diego Lopes is ranked 2nd at featherweight and comes in at -148. There is apparently notable public money on Garcia, which we find interesting but unpersuasive. Lopes has been sharp and consistent at 145, and the KO/TKO lean at +255 is one of the more interesting method value plays on this card for anyone who wants to get creative with it.
Garcia is not without tools, and the public action on him is worth noting as a signal. But we're trusting the ranked fighter at a reasonable price.
EDGELY PICK: Lopes ML (-148) _LEAN ONLY: Lopes via KO/TKO (+255), Method of victory leans are directional, not confident picks. _
Confidence: MEDIUM. Plenty of Garcia money out there. We're on Lopes.
Event Predictions
Fight of the Night: Hokit vs. Lewis this ends on the canvas, probably in round one.
Performance of the Night: Ilia Topuria he ends it with authority and makes it look clean.
Upset of the Night: Ciryl Gane over Alex Pereira.
Dominant Method: KO/TKO this entire card is built for fireworks.
On the Venue: One More Thought
The name is doing enormous amounts of work. Freedom 250. Freedom to do what, exactly, and for whom? The freedom to pay for a pay-per-view? The freedom to watch Ilia Topuria perform on a lawn that technically belongs to all of us, while the news cycle generates whatever it generates that weekend? There is a specific kind of American surrealism at play here combat sports as political pageantry, the White House as event venue, "Freedom" as product branding that deserves at least a moment of acknowledgment before we get on with our lives.
None of this makes the fights less real. Topuria trained for this. Gaethje trained for this. Every person walking into that South Lawn arena is doing the same job they would be doing anywhere else the location does not change the stakes for them. The fighters did not pick the venue. They showed up to compete.
But the staging is worth naming. In a different moment, peace, stability, some baseline national exhale "UFC Freedom 250 at The White House" would simply be a spectacular and historic event. In this moment, it is that same spectacular event wrapped in layers of symbolism that the people running it are either too clever or too oblivious to fully reckon with.
Either way: we're watching. We have picks. Good luck Sunday.
_All picks reflect Edgely's analysis as of June 12, 2026. EDGELY PICK indicates our moneyline selections. LEAN ONLY indicates method of victory leans that hit at a lower rate than ML picks.
