  "textContent": "## To the carpenter bee\n\nDear Mr. or Mrs. Carpenter bee,\nfirst let me say I never intended\nto trap you with that nasty wasp\nhis angry rapid fire thrusts\nhis never-ending stabbings\njust because you’re both stuck\ninside this clear tube world.\n\nI think about you a lot\nbecause I can imagine what it’s like\nto go somewhere you are told is safe\nonly to deal with masked stabby types\nthat won’t listen to reason\nand only want to jam their points in.\n\nYou can imagine my surprise when\nyour lifeless bumble body disappeared\nfrom the holy holey bottom trap\ndoor that I could have opened\nreleasing you from your distress\nbut I feared the wasp sometimes\nit’s easier to turn and walk away.\n\nNow I stare at the place of your abduction\nwondering what house of horrors\nis happening in the dark shed I can’t see\nwhere masked stabby stabbers detain and\ndisappear your kind before the morning light.\n\nIt wasn’t my intention for you\nto suffer but I’m at peace now\nknowing my precious pergoland\nis safe for another season\nmy paycheck doesn’t bounce and my stock\nportfolio buzzes up and to the right.\n\nGreg Chambers creative writing group April 2026",
