"textContent": "Gyalwang Drukpa, head of the Drukpa lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, is visiting Vietnam for a number of activities focused on prayers for peace, including a major Dharma assembly at Tay Thien Mandala. His delegation arrived at Noi Bai Airport in Hanoi on the morning of April 15, and was welcomed by hundreds of Buddhist monks, nuns and followers. It is the 13th visit to Vietnam by the supreme spiritual head of the 1,000-year-old Drukpa Lineage over nearly two decades. He has previously described his repeated visits as driven by the sincerity of Vietnamese followers. « Vietnamese people are kind, strong and united, which is reflected in their historical traditions. » During his stay he is scheduled to meet with Buddhist leaders, deliver Dharma lectures for monks, nuns and the public and attend a Dharma assembly from April 25 to 27 at Mandala Tay Thien in Phu Tho Province. The assembly coincides with the Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day, which he described as « a symbol of the inner strength, wisdom and power of the Vietnamese people, » reflecting both historical continuity and national unity. He said: « Personally, I deeply respect this tradition and am proud to preside over this Dharma assembly praying for national peace and prosperity, and world peace, on such a meaningful occasion. I consider it a small contribution to Vietnam. » The ceremony on April 25 will include the ringing of a bell for peace prayers and the unveiling of a more than 200-meter meditation scroll written in Tibetan on Himalayan dó paper. Other rituals include the unveiling of a thongdrol (Buddhist scroll), prayers dedicated to Tara, an important Bodhisattva in Vajrayana Buddhism, and a Medicine Buddha blessing ceremony for health and well-being. According to Gyalwang Drukpa, the rituals emphasize compassion and wisdom as core values. He noted that peace should begin at the individual level, encouraging reflection even among those unable to attend in person. « We talk a lot about world peace, but often forget the important thing: inner peace. If a person has inner peace, those around them can easily feel it too, so remember to cultivate inner peace. » The Dharma assembly will take place at the Western Heaven Mandala stupa complex, a Vajrayana Buddhist site inspired by Himalayan architecture. The complex is designed as a symbolic mandala representing key philosophical elements of the tradition. The Drukpa lineage is a major branch of Vajrayana Buddhism, and plays a central role in Bhutan’s cultural and spiritual life. In recent decades it has expanded its presence beyond the Himalayan region, including into Southeast Asia and western countries. Born Jigme Pema Wangchen, the 12th Gyalwang Drukpa is recognized not only as a spiritual leader but also for his engagement in cultural and social initiatives internationally.
