  "textContent": "SpaceX’s Starlink satellite Internet service is expected to cost around VND2.2 million (US$85) per month in Vietnam, with the required hardware kit priced at around VND9.2 million. Traditional fiber-optic Internet services typically cost only a few hundred thousand dong a month. Authorities said the Starlink pricing is in a proposed business plan and the price would be determined once the company begins offering services. Starlink has not yet announced a timeline for launching in Vietnam. Nguyen Anh Cuong, deputy director of the Telecommunications Authority, said Starlink has relatively consistent pricing policies across markets. It costs $50 per month in the Philippines, $45 in Indonesia and $45–50 in Japan. In Germany and France, the price ranges between €40 ($46) and €70. Besides household packages, Starlink also offers business plans at higher prices and greater capacity for multiple devices and prioritized bandwidth besides packages for mobile use, maritime and aviation, which require specialized equipment and come at even higher prices. Cuong said satellite Internet is unlikely to compete directly with terrestrial telecom networks in Vietnam in terms of cost or quality, but could help meet demand in areas where telecom infrastructure has not yet been built. Doan Quang Hoan, vice chairman of the Vietnam Radio-Electronics Association, said Starlink is unlikely to become a universal broadband provider in Vietnam, and satellite Internet needs to be integrated with terrestrial telecom networks to serve niche sectors, particularly the maritime economy. Starlink is a satellite Internet system developed by Elon Musk’s aerospace company SpaceX. It operates using satellites positioned around 550 kilometers above Earth, far lower than traditional geostationary satellites located more than 35,000 kilometers away.
