2026-04 North Hollywood station closure

North hollywood subway platform is closed this weekend, with bus replacement service. They knew this would happen, gave a weeks notice on twitter and station signs, but didn’t bother putting the sign or any staff at the escalator from the G line, despite a good portion of boardings at that station involving the B to G transfer. The bus shuttle is at the local bus area, across the street (purple).

So G trips end, and people would walk up to the escalator (west, left side of map) and notice it was closed with no explanation. There was signage on the elevator but if you’re coming from the G discharge stop you won’t notice it if you don’t know to look. And given most of the people don’t have any notice of anything happening at all they won’t know to look. So a growing crowd of people standing at the escalator confused until somebody either points out the sign, or just assumes the escalator is fucked and goes across the street anyway, or god knows what else because neither metro nor their riders planned what to do here.

This closure was known for at least a week. They were likely planning this work for much longer than that. An underground subway station has clear entry and exit points where you can tell people the station is closed and what to do. Failing to think, of all things, about the rider experience on the B to G transfer is insane to me.
