There is a perception that Gitlab is preferable to Github (owned by Microsoft these days) because they are “more aligned to FOSS ideology” and not the same kind of avaricious capitalists that one often has to deal with for various sorts of “cloud services”. But in fact I think that what this news demonstrates - despite Gitlab’s attempt to spin it otherwise - is that they are in fact not that different than their peers in that respect.
