Any Device to look after vulnerabilties in apps?

Hello, I am a data scientist, and I can code in Python. However I know nothing about Android apps implementation and safety I would like to use an app that can read and send SMS (com.pierreduchemin.smsforward). However the last update was two year ago, and I would like to check it is safe, and does not give access to the SMS from outside I would like to ask : if I clone the github repo, is there any device to scan the code to look for vulnerabilities ?
