"textContent": "BYD, a Chinese automaker, has introduced new charging technology capable of significantly reducing electric vehicle charging times. The company’s “super e-platform” utilizes batteries that can charge at 10C and supports direct current (DC) chargers with a peak output of 1,000 kW. According to BYD, this system allows for an additional 249 miles (400 km) of range in five minutes. Current fast-charging infrastructure, such as Tesla’s Superchargers and Electrify America’s chargers, max out at 250 kW and 350 kW, respectively. Even Formula E’s high-powered chargers only reach 600 kW.\n\n\n\nThe company intends to install more than 4,000 of these megawatt-level chargers in China. Two new vehicle models, the Han L sedan and Tang L SUV, will be the first to utilize the technology. These models are set to be available soon, but only in China.\n\n\n\nBYD has a presence in several markets, including Europe, but its access to the U.S. market remains restricted. The company currently supplies batteries and electric buses in the U.S., but legislative efforts have been ongoing to prevent Chinese automakers from entering the U.S. passenger vehicle market.\n\n\n\nWhile BYD claims its new charging platform can deliver 249 miles of range in five minutes, this estimate is based on China’s CLTC testing standard, which is typically more generous than the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) range estimates. Even with a lower EPA rating, the new system represents a significant advancement in EV charging technology.",
