These enhancements stem from the integration of silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor components in the power electronics and upgraded wheel bearings.\n\nUpdated range estimates\n\n\n i5 eDrive40\n \n 310 miles with 19-inch wheels (+5%)\n 300 miles with 20-inch wheels (+8%)\n 278 miles with 21-inch wheels (+3%)\n \n \n i5 xDrive40\n \n 278 miles with 19-inch wheels (+5%)\n 272 miles with 20-inch wheels (+4%)\n 259 miles with 21-inch wheels (+4%)\n \n \n\n\nThe use of SiC inverters enhances the efficiency of energy transfer from the high-voltage battery to the electric motor. Compared to traditional silicon-based semiconductors, SiC offers improved efficiency, power delivery, and thermal resistance.\n\nThese updates apply to vehicles produced from March 2025 onward.",
