"textContent": "Slate, a new American automotive company, has announced a customizable electric truck platform aimed at reducing costs and increasing reliability through manufacturing simplification. The company plans to sell the vehicle directly to consumers and assemble it at a U.S.-based reindustrialized factory.\n\n\n\nThe Slate Truck is a rear-wheel-drive electric vehicle initially configured as a 2-seat pickup, with steel wheels, crank windows, and HVAC knobs. It features a 52.7-kWh battery with an estimated range of 150 miles, or an optional 84.3-kWh battery targeting 240 miles. Charging can be done using a household outlet or via fast charging to 80% in under 30 minutes using a 120-kW charger and the NACS port.\n\n\n\n\t\t\t\n\t\n\n\n\nSlate’s business model emphasizes personalization through do-it-yourself or professionally installed accessories. Over 100 accessories will be offered, including a flat-pack SUV kit that adds rear seats, a roll cage, and airbags, effectively converting the truck into a 5-seat SUV. Vehicle wraps at three levels of complexity will also be available. Customers are encouraged to use their own devices for infotainment, supported by a universal phone mount and USB power.\n\n\n\nThe vehicle is designed to meet high safety standards with features including Active Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, and up to eight airbags. It has a 1,400-lb. payload capacity, 1,000-lb. towing capability, and up to 96 MPGe efficiency. Estimated 0–60 mph acceleration is 8 seconds with a top speed of 90 mph.\n\n\n\nThe Slate Truck is expected to cost under $20,000 after federal incentives, although final pricing and specifications are subject to change. Reservations are open for a refundable $50 at slate.auto.",
