The vehicle is scheduled to begin deliveries in spring 2026, with additional configurations arriving through 2027. Pricing for the lineup will start at $49,985, including a $1,495 delivery charge, with a lower-cost variant expected later.\n\n\n\nThe R2 represents a new product direction for Rivian. Built on an all-new mid-size platform, the model is designed to broaden the company’s reach beyond the larger and more expensive R1T pickup and R1S SUV. While the R2 enters the lineup at a lower price point, Rivian says the vehicle retains the off-road capability, design language, and software-focused architecture that define the brand’s current vehicles.\n\n\n\nDeliveries will begin with the R2 Performance trim equipped with a Launch Package. That version will start at $59,485, including the $1,495 delivery charge, and will be available for a limited time when production begins in 2026. Rivian says additional Premium trims will arrive later in 2026, while the Standard trim is expected to begin deliveries in 2027.\n\n\n\nAcross the lineup, Rivian estimates that the R2 will offer up to 345 miles of driving range. Depending on configuration, the SUV delivers up to 656 horsepower and accelerates from 0–60 mph in as little as 3.6 seconds. Rivian also claims strong mid-range acceleration, with the fastest variant accelerating from 50–70 mph in approximately 1.55 seconds.\n\n\n\nRivian founder and CEO RJ Scaringe described the R2 as a product shaped by the company’s experience developing its first-generation vehicles. According to Scaringe, the design and engineering incorporate lessons learned from the R1 platform while maintaining the company’s core focus on capability and utility.\n\n\n\nThree trims planned for launch\n\n\n\nThe R2 lineup will consist of three primary trims: Performance, Premium, and Standard. Each offers different levels of power, range, and equipment while sharing a common platform and design.\n\n\n\nThe Performance trim will launch first. This version uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing 656 horsepower and 609 lb-ft of torque. Rivian estimates a 0–60 mph time of 3.6 seconds and a driving range of up to 330 miles.\n\n\n\nStandard equipment on the Performance trim includes a semi-active suspension system, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear outboard seats, and a heated steering wheel. The interior features Birch wood accents as part of Rivian’s Black Crater Signature interior theme. Other features include a premium audio system rated at 975 watts with multiple speakers and subwoofers, integrated tow hooks, and adaptive matrix LED headlights.\n\n\n\nThe vehicle also features Rivian’s rear drop glass design, which lowers the rear window completely into the liftgate. Rivian has used a similar design in the R1S and R1T, where it provides ventilation and allows longer cargo to extend out of the rear cargo area.\n\n\n\nPerformance models will come standard with 21-inch wheels. Several drive modes are included: All-Purpose, Conserve, Snow, All-Terrain, Rally, Soft Sand, and Sport. A Launch Mode is also available for maximum acceleration.\n\n\n\nThe limited Launch Package offered at the start of production adds several features, including lifetime access to Rivian’s Autonomy+ driver-assistance system, a special key fob, and the option for a Launch Green exterior color. A tow package rated for up to 4,400 pounds (about 1,996 kg) is also included.\n\n\n\nPremium trim positioned as mid-range option\n\n\n\nThe R2 Premium trim will arrive later in 2026 and will start at $55,485, including the $1,495 delivery charge. It will use a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing 450 horsepower and 537 lb-ft of torque.\n\n\n\nRivian estimates the Premium trim will accelerate from 0–60 mph in approximately 4.6 seconds and deliver a driving range of up to 330 miles.\n\n\n\nEquipment levels on the Premium trim are similar to those on the Performance model, including heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and the same Birch wood interior accents. The Premium trim also includes Rivian’s premium audio system and adaptive lighting features.\n\n\n\nHowever, some performance-oriented features, such as the semi-active suspension and certain drive modes, are reserved for the Performance trim. The Premium trim comes standard with 20-inch wheels.\n\n\n\nCustomers will have the option to add Rivian’s Autonomy+ system, upgrade wheels, choose additional exterior colors, or equip the vehicle with the same 4,400-pound towing package.\n\n\n\nEntry-level model planned for 2027\n\n\n\nThe R2 Standard trim will arrive in the first half of 2027 and will start at $49,985, including the $1,495 delivery charge. This version uses a single-motor rear-wheel-drive powertrain producing 350 horsepower and 355 lb-ft of torque.\n\n\n\nRivian estimates a 0–60 mph time of 5.9 seconds for this configuration. Despite its lower price, the company claims the RWD Long Range version will offer up to 345 miles of driving range, the highest figure in the lineup.\n\n\n\nStandard models include heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a simplified interior with fewer luxury materials than the higher trims. The audio system also uses fewer speakers and lower overall power output compared with the premium system offered on the upper trims.\n\n\n\nBuyers will still be able to add a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system as an option on the Standard trim. Additional options include upgraded wheels, exterior color choices, and the same 4,400-pound towing package.\n\n\n\nRivian also plans to introduce a second Standard variant later in 2027 with an estimated starting price of around $46,495, including delivery. That version is expected to offer more than 275 miles of range, although the company has not yet provided full specifications.\n\n\n\nExterior colors and interior themes\n\n\n\nThe R2 will introduce several new exterior colors developed specifically for the model. New options include Catalina Cove (a metallic blue-green color), Esker Silver, and Half Moon Grey. These will be offered alongside existing Rivian colors, including Midnight, Glacier White, Forest Green, Borealis, and Launch Green.\n\n\n\nWheel options range from 19 inches to 21 inches, depending on the trim. Rivian says all wheel and tire packages maintain a 32-inch overall tire diameter, with different designs intended to balance efficiency, performance, or off-road capability.\n\n\n\nInterior design follows Rivian’s existing approach of combining minimalism with durable materials. Two signature interior themes are available on Premium and Performance trims: Black Crater Signature and Coastal Cloud Signature. Both incorporate Birch wood accents and textile materials.\n\n\n\nThe Standard trim receives a simplified Black Crater interior that retains the same design theme but uses fewer premium materials.\n\n\n\nCargo space and interior layout\n\n\n\nRivian says the R2 is designed to maximize interior utility despite its smaller size compared with the R1 vehicles. The SUV will seat up to five passengers.\n\n\n\nTotal enclosed storage space is rated at 90.1 cubic feet (about 2,551 liters). The front trunk provides 5.2 cubic feet (147 liters) of storage, which Rivian says is large enough for a carry-on suitcase and backpack.\n\n\n\nInside the cabin, the R2 features dual glove boxes and fold-flat rear seats, creating a level cargo floor. Rivian says these features are intended to accommodate outdoor gear such as bicycles, camping equipment, or long items.\n\n\n\nOff-road capability and chassis design\n\n\n\nAlthough the R2 is positioned as a smaller, more affordable model, Rivian says the vehicle retains off-road capability similar to that of the R1 platform.\n\n\n\nGround clearance is rated at 9.6 inches (about 24.4 cm). The SUV also offers a 25-degree approach angle and a 26-degree departure angle.\n\n\n\nThe R2 sits on a shorter wheelbase than the R1 models at 115.6 inches (2,937 mm). Rivian says the vehicle is nearly 2,000 pounds lighter than the larger R1 models, which improves maneuverability and efficiency.\n\n\n\nThe battery pack forms part of the structural chassis and contributes to a low center of gravity. Rivian says this configuration improves handling and stability both on paved roads and off-road surfaces.\n\n\n\nSoftware and driver assistance technology\n\n\n\nThe R2 will also introduce a new software architecture built around Rivian’s vertically integrated hardware and software platform.\n\n\n\nThe vehicle uses a sensor suite that includes 11 high-dynamic-range cameras totaling 65 megapixels, along with five radar sensors. These support Rivian’s Autonomy+ driver-assistance system.\n\n\n\nAutonomy+ will be available as a subscription service priced at $49.99 per month or as a one-time purchase for $2,500. Rivian says the system enables hands-free driving on approximately 3.5 million miles (5.6 million km) of roads across the United States and Canada.\n\n\n\nAll R2 models will include the hardware required for Autonomy+ and will come with a 60-day trial of the service.\n\n\n\nThe vehicle also includes an onboard AI computing system capable of 200 trillion operations per second. Rivian says this hardware will support an upcoming in-vehicle voice assistant that processes commands locally, even when the vehicle is offline.\n\n\n\nDriver interaction will center around a redesigned steering wheel with haptic control dials. The R2 will also feature two digital displays, including a driver display and a central infotainment screen.\n\n\n\nProduction timeline\n\n\n\nRivian plans to begin R2 deliveries in spring 2026 with the Performance Launch Package.
