While I may tinker with tech, I mostly don’t do work and take downtime and Rachael finds lots of things for us to do.

This weekend is the Nikkei Matsuri Festival.

We ate & drank some treats, browsed the market stalls, and went next door to SuzuYa grocery store and bought their last yuzu salt.

It’s still on tomorrow (Sunday, Aug 31st) if you are looking for a Vancouver adventure of your own.

We went through the Nikkei Museum exhibits pretty quickly. Two things caught our eye.

The first was these “Potato Growers of Alberta” books plus some accompanying potato illustrations.

This has lead me down a whole thing about Alberta potatoes. Apparently they grow a lot and “make some of the best French fries in the world”???

They released some new videos this year even.

The other was an artist profile that mentioned their two pets “an albino Chihuahua named Mayonnaise and an angora bunny named Pork Floss”. Mostly I just want to see a picture of the artist with their pets now!

Heading home we came across a fresh fruit & veggie stand in the parking lot of a church around E 29th and Boundary.

We got field cucumbers, roma tomatoes, nectarines, cherries, red fingerling potatoes, and corn on the cob.

I ended up making the dish my mom made with the field cucumbers and tomatoes, this time with a little bacon added.
