Why is South Boston's St. Patrick's Day parade going in reverse this year?

For the first time since the 1980s, the St. Patricks Day parade in South Boston will start in Andrew Square and finish by the Broadway MBTA station. As it turns out, that's the route the parade used to take for decades.
